A lazy summer lunch seated beneath a shaded pergola accompanied by a perfectly chilled bottle of Italian white wine, what could possibly be better.
This summer, the idea of al-fresco lunches with family and friends is all the more special after so many months of travel restrictions and lengthy lockdowns. Gathering together to share good food and great wine, in the warmth of the Mediterranean sun is what brings so many of us back to Tuscany.
While the region is well known for its outstanding reds such as Sangiovese, Chianti Classico, Brunello and the characterful rich Super Tuscans, Tuscany also produces some exceptional white wines that embody the vast diversity of the region.
One cantina producing some interesting Italian whites is a relatively new winemaker, based between the hills of Chianti and the coastal wineries of Bolgheri. A fresh-thinking and innovative country estate, Monterosola is located on an impressive plateau overlooking the medieval city of Volterra.
Monterosola is certainly one to watch in terms of high-quality organic wines. With much of the integral work achieved during the soil preparation stage, the wine itself is given the chance to shine in its own right with little intervention. Using a combination of ancient practices and innovative modern techniques, Monterosola’s wines are organic and produced in a wholly sustainable way.
Celebrating the nature of Monterosola’s distinctive terroir the white wines are unlike those of other producers such as nearby San Gimignano. Monterosola’s wines have deeper more intricate characteristics that play homage to the mineral and salt rich terrain of the Volterrior.
This summer sees the release of Monterosola’s signature white wine Per Mare 2018. This exciting release perfectly illustrates MonteRosola’s ethos of supreme quality. With its unforgettable personality, this rather elegant Viognier is worthy of a celebration lunch or sophisticated dinner.
The white wines produced at this fresh-thinking Tuscan estate are proving to be popular and can be purchased around the world with many global distributors selling Monterosola’s wines internationally. The online Enetoca and Wine club have also allowed the winery to develop a strong international customer base who enjoy wines wine shipments throughout the seasons.
The winery offers a variety of wine-tasting experiences to guests at its hilltop cantina and Monterosola’s trademark wines are well worth discovering, each perfectly capturing the essence of Summer in Tuscany.
